Apologies!!!

My links are currently "unavailable" or in other words, I did something really stupid and lost all special changes i made on my blog... which include my links, my links, and my previous profile (which I prefer over the one I have now). I won't be staying long online as I would be asked by my favorite guard to leave the building soon because its passed working hours.

Rest assured that my Friends and Java Links will be relinked in this blog soon.

As of now, I also need to rest. I had a hell of a Case Study Presentation as a first exam in CS 173 in HP in Makati nad having to ride a stinky van for more than two hours in heavy metro traffic. I'm just glad our group pulled off a "very good" remark from the HP Executives.

We proceeded to Meralco in Ortigas to have an exam for Soluziona. But before the exam was a company presentation, which I have heard for three times already. Anyway, whatever headache I had before Soluziona, Soluziona worsened it. The exam was time pressured and to think we had to identify patterns in the a series of numbers.

Anyway, I really have to go. I'll follow up this up soon.

Thesis Update

Our thesis is 80% done. Actually, the thesis objective has already been achieved. What we are doing now is additional features our adviser asked us to do. We are so happy that is has finally come to this. After weeks and weeks and week and weeks of overnights and not being able to take a bath and classes and classes and classes missed and hours and hours and hours spent staring in front of the hell of a Cathode Ray Tube, I have finally felt that this could be done! This will be done! This is going to be finished! And I become calm and contented.

During the first general assembly of UP ACM Student Chapter, our adviser, Prof Rommel Feria, asked us to present our thesis during the CS 199 Thesis Symposium, which will be held on the 16th and 17th of March, 2005. Consider us both lucky and priviledged to be among the few groups Sir Feria seems to hold in high esteem. Unfortunately for me, I would also be having an IT Forum on the 16th so I might miss a presentation once. More than just an attendance of UP third and fourth years students plus DCS faculty and other UP faculty, our adviser asked some Ateneo faculty to join in the symposium by bringing in their best thesis projects!

The pressure is on but it would be worth the rewards that we, as a group, would reap.

I can't wait till this thesis gets done!!!!! It was worth all the hard work!

of Disappointments and of Machine Alter Egos

of Disappoinments

I just read an email from a person I hold in high esteem. He mentioned about him being invited to an organization and him attending a "meeting" which instead turned into a sort of acquaintance party. After which, he began to comment on the state of the students in our most-loved College of Engineering and that our voice could have been heard if only we had the right representation, the right leaders, the right people.

And I believe he's right. I do not know what his intentions may be besides commenting about the said meeting but I know he had the right idea and thought as to what the we as students can do. In fact, that is what I have been trying to do for the past year. I have been trying to be a voice of the students I represent. Tried to be heard; tried to provide ways for the students to be heard. This is my role as a member of the student council and I hate to admit to the fact that I have not been listened to.

In the council, there are different types of people. And in this council, there are those who hear but never listen. There are those who talk about airing our views and opinions only to be put down in the end. There would be those who would claim your ideas and suggestions to be their own. There will always been the hypocrites and liars. The traditional politicians and the lazy bastards. The neophytes and the troublemakers. This is Engg politics, and engg is a "nano-cosm" of society. You can't change what does not want to be changed. What you can do is adapt and make do with what is there.

That is what some of the idealists in the council have been trying to do. Many have failed along the way, giving up on what a pointless effort. Some have shifted their priorities elsewhere, after finding that this is not what they expected. Some remain because they were voted into office and the work has to be finished, only to find the work half-baked, half-dedicated, half-worthy. And there would be those who continue to cope and try to live up to their roles and still love what they are doing despite every single odd. I have given up. I have given up on trusting on people I thought was worth my trust and respect. I have given up on hoping for change, expecting for dedication and for the love of the college from my colleagues.

But I have not given up on the people who continue to be there, though half hearted and tired. I haven't given up on the future, the next batch. I haven't given up on the potential of the students in an apathetic enginering. I have seen some speak their mind even if no one else was listening, trying to make other people realize the value and importance of these issues are equally important to their ES subjects, their acads, their orgs. There are those who are still aware, still involved, still responsive and still caring for those that don't even bother to care to look at the bigger picture.

It's January!
It's 2005!

Finally, the end of a not so good year for many people; Asians in general, Filipinos specially, the UP College of Engineering in particular. There have been too many changes this year.

For one, we had a new College Dean which brought a lot of controversy that spelled change that was translated to disaster by a good number of people. Though i personally accepted the idea and the concept behind the changes and the vision and goals our Dean Guevara wanted for the college, I just didn't see the same enthusiasm of her appointed officials to that vision she had.

Just this December, there has been a circular of rumors that there is now a new College Secretary. Prof. Evangel Quiwa of the CS Department is now the new College Sec. So what happened to our dear friend Dr. Que, he was been, what my friend termed as, "Super-sized" to Associate Dean. I'm just glad that I will be seeing less of him...

A new "elected" Philippine President took the seat this year. She was not a duly elected president during her previous term so I consider her something new. It's more of like a President having a new mandate from the people. Anyway, despite the many irregularities involved in her "ascension to the throne" of power, I think it is about time for her to do what she's really suppose to do. She has been giving to much time on politiking and has been paying attention to the wrong priorities that it has cost her a lot of support.

Basic social services like Education, Social Welfare, Health and Agrarian Reform should be at the core of her administration if she is to be remembered as a Filipino president, as the president who cared, as a president who served. These are the foundations to a stable and "Strong Republic" .

A new UP President in the person of Ermelinda Roman. She really wasn't my bet nor do she adhere to the same principles that I believe in but I think she is a better alternative to a candidate that would be made a puppet of Malacañan.

I bet 2005 will bring a good number of changes still!

A better college student council, I'm sure! hehehe... really! The council would have been able to make better choices, better judgements, better calls if only they involved more people in the decision making process . This was definitely what I did not expect to happen during my term as a representative. I am disappointed but that would not keep me out from continuing to serve the people I am suppose to serve. The CS studentry can continue to expect their representatives to continue the job of services even until passed our term... and yes, maybe even after graduation!

Cursor? As I have said, this is going to be the year of the CS Department! =P Cursor Sexy!!!

Parser? I know they will continue to pursue their love for journalism and service to the department. I have big dreams and they have to.

Salutations to UP Parser Staff 2004-2005!

My graduation! This is the one day that I finally take that step into the real world! Haha... I just hope I do graduate this April!

...

I can dwell on the many changes that may occur and the many changes that I want to occur. Dreams have kept me going this passed year and dreams will continue to bring me to do what I am suppose to do. I just hope my dreams will be more than what they are...

A Happy New Year to Everyone!
